iPhone 7 With USB-C, Wireless Charging, Enhanced 3D Touch And More In Testing
Tuesday, 1 December 2015
Apple’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus handsets may be about to go through their first and last period of festive sales as the company’s flagship devices, but discussions about their successors has already started circulating. Apple launched the two new models, complete with 3D Touch and a pre-installed iOS 9 platform, back in September, but we’ve already heard a number of rumors pertaining to the next-generation iPhone. A new report is suggesting that Apple is busy with the iPhone 7 design and development, with up to five different potential model variations being tested internally.
An earlier iPhone 7 report to surface suggested that Apple could make a big deal about ensuring that the new iPhone is marketed as being waterproof to a certain submersible level. It was also suggested that the ruggedness of the device would be improved through innovative design to make sure that the hardware was also dust proof and capable of withstanding the external environment as best possible. These latest reports go multiple steps further to suggest that Apple is working with five internal versions of the iPhone 7, all with varying features and functionality that could make it to market.
It’s being suggested that one of the devices in question ditches Apple’s own proprietary Lightning port in favor of the new USB-C port. More so, the report states that Apple has integrated fast wireless charging technology into a number of these devices to see if it has any legs going forward. Additional functionality that supposedly exists within the various test devices includes multi-touch 3D Touch, dual camera integration, and perhaps more exciting, built-in biometric fingerprint detection built directly into the display of the iPhone 7.
Apple, or any other company for that matter, will never release a device that manages to put a tick in every box on everyone’s features wish list. The trick is to research and implement the features that genuinely add benefit to the device and exist to separate it from the competition. The success of 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus means that adding multi-touch capabilities to this is logically the next progression. This would presumably allow users to bring up additional contextual information and perform more powerful actions through the use of multiple finger detection.
Of course, reports of this nature, which make no attempt to cite any reputable source whatsoever, should arguably be taken with a pinch of salt, even though a lot of the purported features are actually quite exciting. Let’s get the next few months out of the way and see what the future brings for Apple’s next-generation iPhone.
