Apple Leases Seven-Building Campus in Sunnyvale

Apple has agreed to lease a seven-building campus in Sunnyvale where it could place about 1,450 workers, reports Mercury News.

The deal is the latest sign of a remarkable burst of expansion by Apple. The tech company is busy leasing offices in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara at the same time it undertakes the construction of a massive 2.8 million-square-foot "spaceship" campus in Cupertino that could accommodate 14,200 workers.

The 290,000 sq ft complex at the corner of Central Expressway and North Wolfe Road is known as Sunnyvale Crossing. It was purchased by Lane Partners and renovated into a state of the art office center.

"Apple continues to grow, they are building e-commerce, support staff; they are adding new software and hardware products; they are hiring all sorts of high-level engineers," said Tim Bajarin, principal analyst with Campbell-based market researcher Creative Strategies. "This sort of expansion is more than justified."

Documents with the city of Sunnyvale list Apple as the tenant in one 69,000 sq ft building at 120 San Gabriel Drive but sources tell Mercury News that Apple plans to occupy the other six buildings as well. Building permits have been filed for interior improvements.
