Apple Reduces MFi Licensing Cost for Lightning Cables, Accessories
Apple has reportedly reduced the MFi licensing cost for Lightning cables and other accessories, according to Mac Otakara.

The report suggests that it may take some time for the price reduction to make its way to consumers.

Apple lowered the price of MFi licensing use rate and Lightning connector purchased amount from January, 2014. It is thought that it takes time so that a price is reflected by Lightning connector accessories dealt in by the companies.

Apple's new Lightning connector makes use of four embedded chips in an attempt to prevent unlicensed cables from being produced; however, Apple's authentication for the Lightning connector was cracked allowing third party companies to manufacturer accessories without approval. A report from last fall revealed that Apple had even begun blocking some knockoff Lightning cables from working in iOS 7.

It's unclear if the number of unauthorized cables on the market led Apple to reduce its MFi pricing. If you are interested in the MFi program, more details can be found here.
