Apple Files for iWatch Trademark in Japan




Apple has filed for a trademark on the name 'iWatch' in Japan, according to a Bloomberg report.

The iPhone maker is seeking protection for the name, which is listed in a category for products such as a handheld computer or watch, according to a June 3 filing with the Japan Patent Office that was made public last week. Takashi Takebayashi, a Tokyo-based spokesman for Apple, didn’t respond to a request for comment. 

Early last month it was reported that filed for a trademark on the term 'iWatch' in Russia; however, the validity of the news was unclear.

Bloomberg previously said that Apple has 100 designers working on the device. Some expect Apple to release the device as early as this year.
