Safari:

Zibri Posts Update On ZiPhone

Zibri has posted an update on ZiPhone and modding the iPhone

Someone asked me to say "hi" at least... so be it :)
About ZiPhone, the actual version I'm testing works pretty well, but it's not ready at all for public release.
I hope it will someday.
In the meanwhile some real life personal matters are fullfilling my life and some router hacking (pirelli broadband/dialface wifi adsl2 routers) are keeping my mind focused :)

As I already said I see no reasons now to rush to mod the iPhone. Apple did a wonderful job with appstore and suplies so the iPhone is available now in almost any country and in every form (locked, unlocked, PAYG).

Modding the iPhone at moment seems just a hypocritical synonym for "getting apps for free from appstore" and I'm not fine with that.

Let's see what will happen.

Microsoft Is Working on TellMe App for iPhone

Microsoft is working on an application for the iPhone, called TellMe, according to a Cnet report.

Ina Fried has discovered that it is the company's Tellme unit that is actively developing a program for Apple's iPhone. Tellme offers voice-activated search for a variety of phones, including the BlackBerry.

Apparently Microsoft had developed an early alpha program in a matter of weeks; however, senior director Dariusz Paczuski said it will probably be a couple of months before a public version is ready. He said it will definitely happen within their current fiscal year, which runs through June.

"I'm not sure we can squeeze it out this year, given everything we've got going on," Paczuski told Ina.

iPhone Dev-Team Working on iPhone 2.2 Beta

The iPhone Dev-Team has gotten a hold of the 2.2 Firmware Beta and is already working on it.

While we continue working on the two current remaining challenges from Apple (the iPhone 3G soft unlock and iPod Touch 2G jailbreak…see the end of this post), we’re also watching the latest beta releases from Apple.

The first beta 2.2 from Apple reveals a few things:

They’re continuing with their ski-resort theme; Version 2.2 is nicknamed TImberline.
They’ve gone back to using expiry dates. The first 2.2 beta is due to expire on November 30, 2008. They stopped using expiry dates about halfway through the 2.1 betas, but for some reason they’ve started using them again.
Version 2.2 is still vulnerable to pwnage and quickpwn on everything but iPod Touch 2G.

To demonstrate point #3, here’s the non-AppStore application Terminal.app running on 2.2, showing the kernel build information.


Hardware already vulnerable to pwnage remains vulnerable in version 2.2.

Regarding the two current challenges: the 3G iPhone soft unlock and iPod Touch 2G jailbreak are still relatively new challenges (compare them with the timeframe of the iPhone challenges last year). We’re making slow advances on both fronts, but it’s not the sort of thing that can be easily described in a blog like this.

But, to maybe show how interlinked these challenges are, this weekend we’ll be trying some hardware based ideas on the iPod Touch 2G jailbreak :)
